The worst of the worst!

Have you heard about Sterling Brinkerhoff’s recent championship conquest? The nine-year-old from Benjamin, Utah won a special contest last Tuesday. He was awarded top honors in the 36th National Oder-Eaters Rotten Sneaker Contest held in Montpelier, Vt.

Brinkerhoff beat out seven other young people who brought their smelly sneakers to compete in the contest. Judges rated the shoes on condition and smell, eventually settling on Brinkerhoff’s torn, once-white low cuts as the worst of the worst.

Sort of brings a tear to your eye doesn’t it?! Either out of shear pride like all parents feel when their little munchkins earn top-of-the-heap honors; or because you can imagine the kind of overpowering stink it took to win the top prize.

Whatever feelings you might have, don’t snicker too much because the top stinker earned a cool $2500, a trophy, a supply of Odor-Eaters and an all-expense-paid trip to New York City to see “Mary Poppins”!

But there is a trade off; all of this comes at a price. In exchange for all these rewards Sterling will have to give up his award-winning shoes which will be enshrined in the event’s “Hall of Fumes.” Not bad huh?!

Can you imagine a better trade?

Only one!

Jesus took all the rotten, wretched, filth of our sin on Himself and in return gave us His righteousness and peace with God.

God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. ~ 2 Corinthians 5:21

LOL…humor in the story! Also, a reminder of our rotten and stinking fallen state…of Christ’s as the ‘propitiation for sins that are past’….and of the reward of both those who accept it as well as those who do not.

Mt 7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

    Rotten-putrid-stink…something to think about.
