The dethroning of Thor

There’s good news, bad news, good news and bad news!

Good news #1: Our grandson Aaron Tyler Alvey – who turned 5-weeks-old yesterday (Monday) got released from the hospital the night before (Sunday) just in time to come home late with mom and dad! Woo hoo!

Bad news #1: Valerie (Aaron’s mom) got so little rest the first night that she was sick to her stomach Monday morning due to lack of sleep. I’ll spare you the details. (You’re welcome)

Good news #2: Grandma Susan got to babysit Aaron on Monday when Sam (Aaron’s dad) dropped him off on his way to school! To say she was delighted beyond words would be an understatement!

Bad news #2: Thor – our puppy, who thinks he is an extension of Susan’s lap – did not much care for being dethroned. He was so bothered and upset by having to share his mistress that he left a nice little log on the laundry room floor rather than outside! Bad puppy!

But I notice the same sort of struggle in myself. No, I don’t leave logs on the laundry room floor; but when I live uncertain of God’s lavish love for me I tend to get out of sorts and act in ways that are less than lovely.

None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us. ~ Romans 8:37-39 (The Message)

Paul said that nothing could separate us from the love of God; but he didn’t say anything in regard to our forgetting about it! Sometimes we get so busy with the details of life that we neglect to take time to bask in the warmth of His love.

We need to soak up His indescribable love and delight for us! This will help keep us from leaving little logs everywhere, metaphorically speaking, but it will also be a blessing to others. Just like sponges that ooze whatever they have soaked up, we will ooze with the love of God.

May we ooze much of God’s love today!

Basking in His love…wow…thank you, again, for your timely word!

  3. how wonderful that the baby is home, Rick! I didn’t realize that he’d been in the hospital all this time. Love the pic of him and his grandma.

    See you soon. Happy Easter!

  4. I can picture the dog’s expression in your story here my friend. Great point too on how we try to “get even” with God when things don’t necessarily go our way.

some days its eazier than others to ooze, but thank God he is more dependable than me at loving us. He even helps us clean up are little logs and better yet are great big ones!
