Last Tuesday night a new reality show called The Voice premiered. I know, I know… just when you thought there couldn’t possibly be another one! But this one’s different. Four coaches pick 8 people to work with and then eliminate half. Each of the four teams will have 4 contestants who go head-to-head and America will choose the winner.
The contestants, who have already auditioned to avoid the usual – “Why did they let them on the show?” sentiments, sing while the four coaches have their backs to them. If a coach likes what they hear they hit their button to turn their chair and see who’s singing which means they want them on their team. Now here’s the twist…
If more than one coach picks a contestant to be on their team the contestant gets to pick which coach they want to work with! That’s different! So who are these coaches? R&B icon Cee Lo Green, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine, Country star Blake Shelton and Pop sensation Christina Aguilera. Whether you like their music or not you can’t deny their talent or success.
Most contestants had at least a couple coaches pick them, but there were a few that got picked by all four coaches! Can you imagine that? Can you imagine telling three of them “No thanks”? What an amazing opportunity!
Maybe music isn’t your thing. Pick whatever venue trips your trigger. Car racing, pro sports, popular chefs, world-renowned artists or actors, famous authors… Now imagine four of the most famous people in that venue choosing you to be their student!
Better yet, imagine that Jesus hits the button to choose you to be on His team! That’s exactly what He did and what He offers every person alive. An invitation to be His disciple – to learn how to do real life!
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” ~ Matthew 11:28-30 (The Message)
What an amazing opportunity! Are you up for it?
